The multi-age play zones in this exhibit space encourage you to flex your body and imagination all while viewing the world around you from a new perspective - sometimes up to 20 feet off the ground! Hideaway Woods: This two-acre, nature discovery environment features eight interconnected treehouses, a flowing streambed, and fanciful nature sculptures. Other popular attractions include over 60 species of live animals, Dinosaur Trail, Ellerbe Creek Railway, and Into the Mist.

Situated on 84-acres, our interactive science park includes a two-story science center, one of the largest butterfly conservatories on the East Coast and beautifully landscaped outdoor exhibits which are safe havens for rescued black bears, lemurs, and endangered red wolves. Located less than five miles from downtown Durham, the Museum of Life and Science is one of North Carolina’s top family destinations. An observation deck provides unobstructed views of the black bear habitat while visitor-controlled zoom cameras offer guests the opportunity for a one-of-a-kind look at bear behavior. Located in Explore the Wild, a six-acre woodland habitat and thriving wetland site where you can use the tools of a wildlife biologist, the Museum's black bear habitat is home to four American black bears.
